An Afternoon with Riley – Growing up on the National Road
April 18 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pmFree
Join us as we share stories of the Indiana National Road and James Whitcomb Riley through a fun and interactive event at the Riley Boyhood Home and Museum on the Historic National Road. This event will highlight the importance of the National Road’s influence on Indiana growth and development, and specifically, how growing up on the National Road helped to shape Riley’s experiences for the many marvelous stories of his youth, as told through poetry.
4-5 PM: The main floor of the Riley Boyhood Home will be open, free of charge, for visitors to explore and talk with docents. Historic artifacts, photographs, letters and other interpretive materials related to the National Road will be available for viewing at the new Lizabuth Ann’s Kitchen event space behind the Riley Museum. Indiana National Road Association (INRA) volunteers will share information about the artifacts, as well as offer information about their organization. Mr Riley, interpreted by Chadwick Gillenwater, will interact 1/1 with visitors and answer questions.
5-6PM: Formal presentation by Chadwick Gillenwater, of his first person interpretation of the young James Whitcomb Riley.
4-6PM: Complimentary light refreshments offered in Lizabuth Ann’s Kitchen for attendees
