“Into the Wood” Opening Reception
June 14 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pmFree
The Hancock County Arts Council’s latest show, “Into the Wood,” opens with an artists’ reception on Friday, June 14, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., at the Twenty North Gallery, 20-A N. State St. (Hwy. 9) in Greenfield. The public is invited to this free event.
A group of seven artists and master artisans have used various techniques on wood to express their creative talents.
See fantasy figures, fairy houses, and walking sticks from Greenfield carver Jim Webb; pictures painted on wood from Donna Shortt, Sandy Hall and Carol Barrett; intricate, burnt animal images—some on sawn tree sections, some on paper–from Jennifer Flynn and Sharon Highsmith; master-crafted furniture from Dean Felker; and chipped-wood carvings and wood-turned pens.
The show highlights the variety of ways human creativity expresses itself in a single medium; for instance, a Cardinals baseball bat with a red cardinal perched on a baseball—all as one piece. There are Colt gun grips, intricately carved from walnut and ebony, and a multitude of fascinating comic figures—both in painted and natural wood.
“Into the Wood” continues through June and appeals to people of all ages. Gallery hours are Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free.
