The James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home and Museum is excited to open our season with a performance by the Melchior Marionettes in our new programming facility, Lizabuth Ann’s Kitchen.
The program will consist of a 20 minute marionette performance, a presentation on the history of puppets, a display of international puppets, Q & A, and a children’s workshop. The Children’s workshop will include making your own paper puppet and is recommended for ages 3 – 9 years old. The program is free to all ages, but space is limited, so registration is recommended.
Register online for both the program and workshop:
Melchior Marionettes is one of the few multi-generational troupes in the United States. It began in the early 1950’s when Erica Melchior, a German immigrant, started the business in Lorain, OH. She traveled extensively throughout the Midwest and later on cruise ships. In 1972, her daughter Peggy expanded the business into Indianapolis. Peggy has performed primarily in the Midwest, including her own theatre in Nashville, IN, The Children’s Museum, and the Indiana State Museum. She has also performed in Mexico City, Hamburg Germany, Rome, and Shanghai. Her daughter Heidi and two granddaughters frequently perform alongside her.
